Junior Kite Training

The Junior Kiteboarding Progression Sessions were established in 2021 with the aim of systematically advancing the most promising young kiteboarding athletes across Perth and Western Australia. Initiated by Kite & Wing WA, the State Sporting Association for kiteboarding and wingfoiling, the program provides a structured, long-term athlete development pathway with a strong focus on freestyle and big air performance. National champions, – and international GKA competitors originating from this program, are Ruben Swart, Amber Skinner, Elena Kingdom, Joel Grantham, and Ben Gerhardt and Henry Gerhardt.

Beyond technical riding skills, participants are coached in the core attributes required for success in high-performance sport, including agility, coordination, and mental strength. The program is designed to develop not only capable athletes, but also confident, well-rounded young people who can thrive both on and off the water.

A unique feature of the pathway is the opportunity for athletes to obtain their Junior Instructor Licence, with many of our participants achieving this qualification by the age of 14. This milestone further supports personal growth by fostering leadership, responsibility, communication skills, and community engagement. It also provides a valuable pathway into employment, enabling young athletes to gain meaningful work experience and earn income through the summer season while remaining actively involved in the sport.
